Well, it looks like Steve Jobs was right about Flash all along as Adobe has decided to kill flash for mobile browsers and is refocusing development efforts on HTML 5 and repackageing Adobe Flash Apps into stand-alone Adobe AIR applications.

Research In Motion Reports Second Quarter Fiscal 2012 Results

Earlier today, Research in Motion reports Second Quarter Fiscal 2012 Results.

Higlights included:

  • Revenue in the second quarter was $4.2 billion and service revenue surpassed $1 billion for the first time
  • GAAP net income of $329 million or $0.63 per fully diluted share; adjusted net income of $419 million or $0.80 per fully diluted share
  • The BlackBerry subscriber base grew 40% year over year to surpass 70 million
  • RIM’s largest roll-out of BlackBerry smartphones was initiated with 7 new smartphones launched with over 90 carrier and distribution partners in 30 countries during the latter part of Q2
  • Approximately $780 million was invested as part of a consortium of companies that successfully bid to acquire intellectual property assets from Nortel
  • BlackBerry smartphone shipments in Q3 are estimated to grow between 27-37% over Q2 shipments

We just heard that BlackBerry Bridge v1.0.6.5 is now available in BlackBerry App World.  There is no change log, but, hopefully, this update is a precurssor to an update to BlackBerry Tablet OS.

Launch dates for the T-Mobile touch BlackBerry Bold 9900 and touch BlackBerry Curve (Apollo) leaked!

Back at BlackBerry World T-Mobile announced that they would be carrying the new touch BlackBerry Bold 9900, but, they only gave 'later this year' for the time frame as to when.  Most rumors have been pointing to a release sometime this summer, however, This is my next has published a T-Mobile 2011 release road map and it looks like not only will the touch BlackBerry Bold 9900 launch on August 19th, but, the yet to be officially announced touch BlackBerry Curve, also known as the Apollo, will launch on August 31st.

BlackBerry PlayBook to run Android Apps Natively In 2nd Half

Rumors that RIM may allow Android apps to run on the BlackBerry PlayBook have been floating around for a few weeks, but, a recent article in BusinessWeek paints a different picture of how the PlayBook will do so.  Initially it was thought that RIM would use Dalvik VM as a Java virutal machine, the same VM used in Android.  BusinessWeek sources, however, claim that RIM will actually build its own software component to add to the QNX operating system and that it may be available  for the BlackBerry PlayBook in the second half of this year.
